Lunch Seminar at Health Systems Research Summit

A lunch seminar today on Global Health Diplomacy filled the room in Nagasaki at the Health Systems Research Summit. Health is intrinsically political and the need to understand and learn how to navigate in the political landscape is gaining huge interest right now.

The purpose of the seminar was to; increase the interest in why health diplomacy is important and critical for health outcomes; be familiarized with basic concepts and activities of GHD; exchange information about ongoing health diplomacy trainings and the demand and interest; discuss how to stimulate collaboratives through capacity building and research
Policy makers and health “diplomates” from Japan, China and Thailand shared their experiences and I shared some of my practical learning from my years as the Swedish Global Health Ambassador.
The Global Health Diplomacy Institutions Network (GHD) was launched at the beginning of this year and serves a dual purpose: to foster a robust academic and practical framework for health diplomacy and to establish a global platform for collaborative innovation in this field. Colleagues from Toronto and Geneva spoked about the need for training as well as research and what is already in place.
By uniting leading academic institutions across diverse regions, the network aims to create a synergistic platform where knowledge, resources, and expertise are shared and enhanced. We are only at he beginning and will share more information as the work evolves
